Wanderings of Midge

After snorkeling in the morning at two beaches, Ke'e at the end of the road on the North Shore, and Tunnels again nearby. We were not too impressed by Ke'e, though much of that is because the surf was too rough to get out on the outside of the reef, where the most impressive sights are. We figured we'd just move on, and headed back to Tunnels. This time, we entered from the sandy beach rather than a dirt road where all the scuba divers head in. Boy was this a great choice! The second time in was even more incredible, and we saw three sea turtles at once! How awesome!

After that, we headed up to Secret Beach. This was down a long dirt road, and used to be known for being a nude beach. We didn't see much nakedness, though swimsuits on girls these days don't count for much! This was a gorgeous sandy beach that just went on and on. We found some great palms to nestle under, and enjoyed our second to last day in the manner I needed! Doing nothing but enjoying the sun and each others company. We just read and swam and had a great time!


We headed home and packed everything up, because we had an early start for our last day. We decided that the best way to end our honeymoon was to take a helicopter tour of the island. We left the condo for the last time, and headed down to Lihue. We were on a helicopter with 3 other people, plus the pilot. It was so amazing!





It went all over the island, and was truly a spectacular way to see the island! We're glad we did it! And I didn't get scared at all! Yay!
After that, we needed lunch! We got this mixed plate of chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, beef stew, potato salad, and rice. We regretted it halfway through, because it was an insane amount of food! But we loved it anyway!

Then we decided it was time to tour the south side of the island. We went to a lot of places, here's some highlights!
The Glass Beach at Hanapepe: Near a dump, so all the glass bottles get caught up in the water and get tumbled around and polished. It was cool to pick through it and find pretty colors, like greens and blues and reds. If you go there, please be respectful and do not take any glass. There is far less glass than there used to be because everyone takes some. Please leave it so others can enjoy it! Okay, end rant :)
The Hanapepe Swinging Bridge: This is all there is in Hanapepe, really. It's a lot of art galleries and run down looking businesses. But the bridge is cool!

The Spouting Horn: This is in Puipu, and we really enjoyed watching the water rushing into the shore and spouting out the top!




The Lava Arch: Also in Poipu, and there was not another soul down there with us! It was so beautiful, and we found a great little rock ledge to sit and watch the water pouring in and out of the arch.

We went to one last beach that day to read for a couple hours. Gillin's Beach was nice and off the beaten path. Only locals hanging out there. Lots of people were surfing, and a couple were parasurfing, which I'd never seen before. It was a great place to hang out for our last couple hours in Kauai! We headed to the airport, and said goodbye to the Garden Island. Hopefully we will be back again soon! What an amazing honeymoon!
