Last Tuesday, the Seattle Sounders made history by becoming the first MLS team to win back to back Open Cup championships, and I was there to see it happen! It was an incredibly fun game, made all the more excellent by our insanely good seats. It's such a rarity to get to see your team win a trophy at home, and we were all so happy to be there for the game. Some highlights from the match:
Second row on a gorgeous Seattle evening
Adam and Mark get their game faces on!
We are the Blue, We are the Green!
The Emerald City Supporters always bring great banners!
James Riley's stellar defense
My boyfriend Osvaldo Alonso. I love him. Sorry Kevin! :)
Nathan Sturgis takes a corner kick...right next to us!
Sounders defeat the Crew 2-1!!!!
Celebration Time!!!!
Now the Sounders have made the MLS playoffs, starting sometime at the end of the month, so soccer love continues for us! Huzzah! Go Sounders!!!!
Sheesh, I'm too busy to blog! I hate it when I get behind a couple of days, because then it feels like old news, plus I also have ever more things to post about! So here are photos from this weekend, a Sounders game, another birthday celebration, and loads of nephew time!
After going for a run and then reading all afternoon in the sunshine, we headed out to meet Susan, Neal, Adam, Erin, and Corbin at Qwest Field for the Sounders match. It was such a nice night out, we were all perfectly comfortable in our shorts and t-shirts all night! We got another tie, but had a great time seeing a little of what Corbin has been learning lately!
"I'm ready for the game, Auntie Meghan!"
He's starting to take his first steps! A little tough in a stadium, but he gave us a mini demo!
He loves to point, and since last time we saw him a few weeks ago, he actually is pointing at specific things a lot of the time now! He can sign "more" and points at Erin when he wants to nurse, which is pretty awesome!
Note the Sounders colored pjs!
This kid knows how to cheer for his team!
It was a very quick little visit, hopefully Kevin and I will get a chance soon to get some good long quality time with Corbin. He is growing so fast and learning so much, everytime we see him we are astounded by how much he has learned!
Sunday I made a solo trip to the island to celebrate baby brother Joseph's 20th birthday! It was really nice to get the family together again, we have been lucky to be getting to spend so much time all together lately! Hopefully it will continue this summer!
The city looked gorgeous on the ferry ride, and I even rode up top for the first time in many years!
Jackson was getting over a stomach bug, but he was pretty perky for Aunti Mae Mae!
Nate and I got some quality time together, finally! He and I went on a walk through the Grand Forest to Battle Point Park, and I showed him the conservatory. He is a budding astronomer, and we want to go when the observatation area is open some evening together! He is also learning how to yo yo, and I taught him the few tricks I know! We also played an awesome game of Ticket to Ride, and we tied each other!
These brothers love each other! It is so cute, Jackson absolutely adores Nate!
Crazy decadent Coconut cake was a big hit!
Our little Gilligan!
Jackson loves playing with balls, and is becoming an expert bouncer!
He and I also are working very hard on him learning how to say "Lo Lo" because he has mastered Mae Mae! Gotta get both aunties names first!
It was s great visit with everyone! Last night Kevin and I went to the Mariners game, which they lost 1-0 versus the Orioles, but it was a really pleasant evening at the ballpark! Kevin and heading into the final stretch in school, graduation is the week after next! Very exciting! Almost there babe!
~Waking up snuggly warm before my alarm went off and not feeling like I have a cold
~Seeing a man hold up an umbrella over the woman next to him on the street downtown today who didn't have a coat
~Going to the GreenFest with my girls where we ate great food, learned some new stuff, bought some pretty earrings, and spent some much needed quality time together
~Getting to see my little Corbin!
~Meatball soup
~Going to the Sounders vs Real Salt Lake City match with Kevin, Adam, Erin, Neal, Ray (who I babysat for when he was like 6 years old!) and Corbin!!!
~Corbin managing to get a little sleep in at the very exciting and super loud game
~SOUNDER WIN THEIR SECOND MATCH OF THE SEASON!!!!!!
And now that I have, I love you even more!!!! Tonight was the first match for the Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field. 30,000 fans, green and blue scarves waving proudly, marching from Pioneer Square to the stadium, chants, screaming, scoring goals - what could be better?! It was an awesome way to kick off the season, and I am officially a diehard fan!
We got tickets with Adam, Erin, Susan, and Neal, so Adam and Erin came down to our place this afternoon with Corbin, and Susan and Mark came over from the island. Grandpa Mark graciously offered to babysit the little monkey while we were at the game! We were all super pumped, and of course had our awesome scarves that Kevin had scored us, plus we each had something green or blue on to show our pride! I knitted Corbin a Sounders scarf this week so he could be decked out, too!
Checking out his soccer, he's ready to play!
Sounders fan from infancy!
We headed down to the match early to march with other fans, and hear some higher ups talk, and get pumped! Drew Carey (one of the owners of the team) and Tony Ventrella, plus some other folks got the crowd excited to start the march to the stadium!
Sounders take to the streets!
Think Adam is a little excited? Check out the sweet jersey Erin got him for Christmas!
Neal, Susan, and Kevin show off their scarves
I knitted my hat over the last couple of days out of the leftover yarn from Corb's scarf! Look ma, earflaps!
The man in black behind Adam is Adrian Hanauer, the Sounders General Manager! Pretty sweet photo, if I do say so myself!
The pitch!
There's Drew Carey
Look at all those fans! It looked so awesome when everyone raised their scarves and waved them around!
Beautiful view of the city from our seats!
And the players take the field!
The game could not have been more exciting! The Sounders scored their first goal in the first 12 minutes of the game, and went on to score two more. The New York Red Bull did not score any the entire game, and actually didn't even have that many shots on goal. Fredy Montero scored two of our goals, which was the first time since 2005 that a player making their major league debut has scored twice in the same game! How exciting! Kasey Keller made some stellar stops at the goal, and many of the other players (I will learn who you are soon!) did an awesome job. All in all, I had an amazing time, and I can't wait for next weekend's matchup against Salt Lake City Real!
Kevin and I have a long weekend together! He is done with finals for the quarter and on spring break, so I decided to take tomorrow and Monday off to spend some time with him. Tomorrow we are going out to breakfast with Adam and Erin and some friends, and then Saturday we are babysitting Jackson while Nate has his first Tai Kwon Do meet! Other than that, we aren't sure what we are going to do with ourselves, but it will be nice to have a little mini vacation! Hooray!
